better now and in the future by providing access to nature, outdoor space to play and exercise, free-time
fun in positive spaces, and socializing and learning in a gathering place.

house was re-secured. The goal storage area project at Diablo Vista Park has begun, to improve this area
for more storage of equipment. The Riverwalk foot bridge going into the Town Green has been opened for public use and three trees were pruned for clearance above it.
This May, the aquatics program nished a second lifeguard certication course and successfully certied
another 7 more lifeguards. These participants passed a written test and completed a rescue sequence as
part of the lifeguarding test. We are very excited to see these new guards in action in our community.
PROTECT ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES
Due to the results from last month’s soil testing, the soil enhancing materials have begun being applied to
the sports elds for the turf management program. Irrigation checks and repairs are in full force current -
ly, repairing three mainline breaks, replacing two remote control valves and completing 58 irrigation
repairs. Small turf areas were seeded and top-dressed, while installation of eight new plants was complet-ed in the parks. Repairs to the fencing around the oak tree in the large dog park
were completed for protection from the dogs, and maintenance pruning of 12
trees was performed.
PROVIDE RECREATIONAL EXPERIENCES
The Senior Bocce League and Softball League is back and they are excited to be playing bocce and softball once again. Wee Hoop Basketball is back and teach-
ing our toddlers and young children the game of basketball. During this class
parents are participating to help keep our young ball players stay socially distant
and safe.
Movin’ After Zoomin’ had its last session from May 3 to May 21. For the nal 3 weeks of this program, kids
got to pick what art and craft projects they wanted to complete, participated in dress up days and had
many Disney dance parties. Movin’ After Zoomin’ was a program started in August to give elementary
grade kids a place to go after online school to let out their energy and enjoy socially distanced and masked
activities. This successful program ran 3-week sessions every month from August until May.
On Tuesday, May 4, the Town of Danville hosted its sixth annual Star Wars celebration. This year’s event
was like no other, oering two new additions to our event, kicking o with the Wookiees in the Windows
scavenger hunt and ending the day with the Jedi Drive Thru Adventure. Starting the day o in hyper
speed over 400 people embarked on a journey to solve a word puzzle on a journey seeking out Wookiees in the windows of local Danville businesses.
Families and fans then red up their Landspeeders and Podracers to embark
on an epic Jedi Drive Thru adventure around the Danville Community
Center parking lot. Families and friends of the force engaged in carnival games from their cars and unique seles from the characters from the 501st
legion volunteer group who showed up in their galactic uniforms. At this
event, over 400 Jedi and Padawans participated in a variety of carnival
games from the comfort of their car.

to present its latest Public Art installa-
tion for all to enjoy:
Shrumen Lumen,
created by the Fold-
Haus Artist Collec-tive, a group of engi-
neers and designers
who are also artists
who reside in the Bay Area. The towering mush-
rooms are kinetic sculptures—every 5 minutes they grow from 12 feet to 14 feet high then
shrink again. Each mushroom sculpture is lled
with over a thousand LED lights creating a
moving rainbow at night and an ethereal white
sculpture during the day. The Public Art instal-lation will be up through Labor Day weekend.
FOSTER HUMAN DEVELOPMENT
The 2020-2021 Danville Youth Council had
their nal meeting on Monday May 10th. Youth council members had the option to meet outside
at Oak Hill Park for a socially distanced masked
meeting or tune into the meeting via zoom. The
meeting consisted in completing our regularly
scheduled agenda items, welcoming the 10 new members for the 2021-2022 school year and
saying goodbye to our 13 college bound seniors.
On May 20, The Village Theatre Art Gallery
hosted an online Artist Chat via Zoom, an event in which 10 artists from the current art exhibi-
tion, Inspired By....Came online to discuss their
artwork in the exhibition, who they were
inspired by and what their artistic process was
in creating the work. The event was moderated
by the Visual Arts Coordinator. The event was
recorded and may be viewed online. It was a
well attended event in which people had lively
discussion about their artwork, it was a great
way to meet and learn in a safe way. Artists
were pleased to make new connections.
PARKS MAKE LIFE BETTER
In May, there have been a huge uptick in Picnic
Area reservations. After being in quarantine for
so long, everyone is looking to start having their
small social gatherings. Hap Magee Ranch Park
has proven to be one of the most popular places
to picnic.
STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY IMAGE & SENSE OF PLACE
As the summer approaches, all the parks are getting busier as the
residents are out daily enjoying the parks, and we continue to enhance
their enjoyment by performing various duties such weekly maintenance
of both dog parks, including cleaning, clearing drinking fountains and
lling in potholes in the turf areas. The roof of the public restroom at
Hap Magee Ranch Park was cleaned of debris, the volleyball net was
replaced, and the windows of the Magee house were cleaned. A park
bench and six memorial benches were repaired and stained at Osage
Station Park and the Oak Hill Park pond vault cover was re-painted. The
bocce ball senior league has begun play and the weekly prep of the courts
has begun to accommodate it.
On May 6, the Diablo Women's Garden Club kicked of this year rose pruning at Osage Park with over 10
volunteers making sure the roses are pruned to perfection for our community to enjoy. This volunteer
group has been meeting weekly to help maintain these beautiful owers.

ball side boards, cleaning and adjusting nets on tennis courts weekly and repairing the gate latch to the
