STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY IMAGE AND SENSE OF PLACE
The weather has been nice, and the parks are being used quite frequently now. We continue to stay busy
keeping the parks in great shape, including cleaning the branding room, replacing the Swain house
thermostat, uncloing toilets in the public bathrooms and renishing four benches around the meadow
at Hap Magee Ranch Park. Weekly maintenance of the dog parks continues, removing straw wattle in the
large dog park and uncloing drinking fountains in both dog parks. Weekly mowing, bi-weekly edging
and quarterly pruning was performed along with monthly rodent control at all parks. Additional plant
replacement projects were completed, such as the two renovated medians on Greenbrook Drive at Camino
Ramon.
On Saturday, April 24, the Town of Danville held its 17th annual Lend-a-Hand Day. This community
event involves volunteers doing some basic yard work at local seniors’ houses. A total of 40 volunteers
helped clean-up 13 yards. The Town’s maintenance sta drove around and hauled away all the debris that
was cleaned up. The event was a great success and both the volunteers and seniors they helped came away
with a smile.
STRENGTHEN SAFETY & SECURITY
Weekly park and bi-weekly playground inspections continue, along with monthly cleaning and grooming
of the synthetic turf elds. Repairs were completed to the DG pathway near the play area and the entrance
approach to the bridge at Hap Magee Ranch Park.
These items may also reect how Parks Make Life Better! Parks and Recreation make lives and communities
better now and in the future by providing access to nature, outdoor space to play and exercise, free-time
fun in positive spaces, and socializing and learning in a gathering place.
PROTECT ENVIRONMENTAL
RESOURCES
Soil testing, aeration, slit seeding and
fertilizing with organic fertilizer on all
sports elds were performed. Irrigation
checks and repairs are completed weekly,
including repairing ve mainline breaks
and 12 sprinklers in the parks and roadside
areas. Maintenance pruning of 53 trees
was completed, along with the removal of
three trees.
PROVIDE RECREATIONAL EXPERIENCES
Spring Break Camp provided a fun and safe place to play games, go on numerous hikes and to be with
friends again! Spring Break Camp took place at Oak Hill Park from April 5-9 with 14 kids ranging in age
from 5 to 12 years old. Campers enjoyed a paper airplane throwing contest, seeing nature from the top of
the hills and playing team games.
PROMOTE HEALTH & WELLNESS
Skyhawks, Arora Tennis, and Karate all have in person classes at various parks in Danville. It has been
great seeing all of the youth getting back outside and getting active during this time. Adult tennis camps
with John DeMartini have been a hit as well.
On April 10 and April 17, Instructor Carol Jeha of Compassionate Cravings taught inspiring cooks two
new healthy recipes to help keep the energy up and the calories down with Pesto Pasta with chicken and
vegetarian enchiladas. Each dish has interchangeable ingredients allowing exibility for any dietary need
making the class perfect to all home cooks.
PARKS MAKE LIFE BETTER
Picnic reservations have been picking up dramatically in April. All of the parks are seeing an increase in
reservations for picnic table use.
