HomeMy WebLinkAbout081721-06.8 ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF REPORT 6.8 TO: Mayor and Town Council August 17, 2021 SUBJECT: Resolution No. 51-2021, approving out-of-state travel to attend the 2021 U.S. Conference of Mayors’ 89th Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas, August 31 – September 4, 2021 BACKGROUND On February 21, 2006, the Town Council approved Resolution No. 17-2006, approving the Town of Danville Expense Reimbursement Policy. This policy outlines the policies and procedures pertaining to travel by the Town's elected and appointed officials. The policy states that "international and out-of-state travel for any event or activity requires prior approval by the Town Council.” DISCUSSION The role of the Mayor includes participating in the annual Tri-Valley Mayors' Legislative Briefings in Washington, D.C., in conjunction with the U.S. Conference of Mayors' Winter Meeting. This event typically occurs during the month of January. The U.S. Conference of Mayors is a non-partisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or greater. This year, due to COVID – 19, the briefing was postponed, and the Mayor did not attend the winter meeting. The legislative briefings will now take place virtually during the month of August. The Mayor now has an opportunity to attend the U.S. Conference of Mayors 89th Annual Conference which will take place in Austin, Texas, August 31 – September 4, 2021. The conference will bring together hundreds of mayors to focus on policy issues that are important to local governments. The conference program is focused on advocacy, best practices, economic development, outreach and promoting local government and establishing connecting with other mayors. The Mayor will provide a report on the conference to the Town Council at the September 7, 2021 Town Council meeting. Prepared by: Diane Friedmann Assistant to the Town Manager Reviewed by: Joseph Calabrigo Town Manager Attachment: Resolution No. 51-2021 RESOLUTION NO. 51-2021 APPROVING OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL TO ATTEND THE 2021 U.S. CONFERENCE OF MAYORS' 89th MEETING IN AUSTIN, TEXAS, AUGUST 31 – SEPTEMBER 4, 2021 WHEREAS, on February 21, 2006, the Town Council approved Resolution No. 17 -2006, approving the Town of Danville Expense Reimbursement Policy, which outlines the policies and procedures pertaining to travel by the Town's elected and appointed officials, as well as Town employees; and WHEREAS, the policy states that "international and out-of-state travel for any event or activity requires prior approval by the Town Council"; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Conference of Mayors, a nonpartisan organization representing cities with populations of 30,000 or more from across the country, is holding their 89th Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas; and WHEREAS, the Mayor of Danville annually attends the United States Conference of Mayors Annual Meeting, to advocate for projects and legislation of interest to Danville and the region; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council does hereby approve out-of-state travel for the Mayor to attend the 2021 U.S. Conference of Mayors' 89th Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas, August 31 – September 4, 2021.
