Dear Danville Town Council,
I am writing to express my concern that you are considering the cancellation of Danville Community
events through 2021. Please do not do this. Our town relies on these events now more than ever. I am
specifically referencing the San Ramon Valley High School Homecoming Parade.
These high school students have been burdened by so much heartbreak these past 18 months. As
adults, we should STOP asking them to give up important events, take on more stress, and be "ok"
with all that has been handed to them. Homecoming was stripped away last year and the mental
health plummeted in these kids with no social events being allowed.
I beg you to please let them keep ONE thing in their high school years that brings them JOY. We can
do this parade responsibly and safely for everyone to enjoy, but mostly, for the students at SRVHS to
take this memory with them as they move on in life.
Each community event is special and important in Danville. The Tree Lighting is another event that
brings JOY to kids of all ages. It's been a rough couple of years for everyone. Please stand up and be
the difference in these kids lives and give them something to look forward to, rather than another
school year full of masks, social distancing rules, sadness and depression.
It is SAFE to have these events that are fun and bring JOY!
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Sue Hix
Danville Resident
