Dear Town Council Members, I would like to offer my comments and input ahead of today’s Town Council meeting as you continue to discuss the future of the Expanded Patio Seating. I speak for Primo’s Pizzeria and Pub; however, my sentiments are similar to my fellow Downtown Danville restaurant owners that I have been in communication with about this future of TLUPs. It has been brought to my attention that today’s conversation will impact not only the future of parklets, but also private parking lots, which is relevant to my business. It is imperative that us restaurant owners are allowed to continue the use of the parklets and private parking lots in order to recover from a traumatic 2020. We have followed every changing state and local guideline regarding when and where patrons are allowed to dine with us. At the beginning of the pandemic we had to close all indoor and outdoor dining, leaving us to only operate with takeout and delivery, which is 20% of our business. From there, we were able to expand to outdoor dining, with still no indoor dining. Then slowly, we were allowed to have patrons dine inside with us, and then even that was taken away from us back in December 2020. Now, with the state fully opening as of today, we are allowed for 100% indoor dining; however, many of my patrons have come to me and said they will still be dining outdoors as they deem it to be safer. If I have to remove my parking lot structure, I will lose that business that I have fought tooth and nail to grow and preserve over the last year. Other communities in the Bay Area are allowed to keep their outdoor patio structures and I fear that if the town makes us take it all down then our businesses will suffer once again. I need this. We need this. Own town needs us to stay open outdoors in order for us to all recover from 2020. I have at least 10 people come to me daily at the restaurant asking if I’m able to keep my patio open. They absolutely love the patio. They like the TVs, heaters, liveliness, community and ultimately the safety of the patio. Our parking lot does not affect the parade whatsoever, so that is a moot point when discussing the future of private parking lots. I want to also see my fellow restaurant owners succeed as we all have had a very hard year not only financially but emotional and physically as we have had to adapt to the everchanging rules and regulations and I want to see them be able to keep their parklets as much as I want and NEED to keep my parking lot dining structure open. I am available anytime to continue this conversation regarding parklets and in particular private parking lots. Thank you for your time, Drew Nichols 925-260-4350 1
