Mayor and Town Council May 4, 2021
Resolution No. 19-2021, appropriating $36,257 in Asset Replacement Fund
and authorizing the purchase of one Police Patrol Vehicle for $67,964
BACKGROUND
The Town owns and operates a fleet of marked and unmarked police vehicles which are
used by command, patrol, and traffic personnel to carry out the mission of the Police
Department. Police Services recently lost one 2017 Ford Police Explorer patrol vehicle as the
result of a traffic collision. The collision caused major damage and resulted in the total loss
of the vehicle and most of the vehicle's equipment. Police patrol vehicles are equipped with
lights and siren, push bars, prisoner transport seats and law enforcement communication
console equipment. Most of the equipment that was not damaged will not fit into the newer
model police cars. As a result of this loss, it is necessary to purchase and equip one new
patrol vehicle.
DISCUSSION
The Police Department currently uses the Ford SUV Interceptor and the Town will purchase
one 2021 Ford SUV Interceptor Hybrid to replace the vehicle that was lost. A total
expenditure of $67,964 is required to purchase and equip the new vehicle. Based on our
current average for replacing patrol vehicles, the subject vehicle would not have been set for
replacement until 2023/2024. An insurance settlement of $31,707 will fund a portion of the
replacement cost. Appropriation of $36,257 from Asset Replacement Fund is required in
order to equip the new vehicle.
PUBLIC CONTACT
Posting of the meeting agenda serves as notice to the general public.
FISCAL IMPACT
An additional appropriation of $36,257 is required from available Asset Replacement Fund,
and $31,707 will come from the amount received from the Municipal Pooling Authority to
fund the total purchase price of $67,964.
