Dear Council Members, I am writing to implore you to take action regarding the tragic death of Tyrell Wilson. I am deeply saddened by this horrible action that has taken place to take the life of a young man that could have been avoided had there been further action take after the last tragic police shooting just a few years back by the same officer. I find it appalling that Officer Andrew Hall has continued to serve the Town of Danville after the last officer involved shooting where he took the life of another man of color. Here we are just three years later and the same type of incident has occured. I know that the Town of Danville often celebrates being the safest town in California, however with Office Hall and these types of incidents happening literally in my backyard, as a person of color I DO NOT feel safe knowing that the people hired to serve and protect me and my family are not held accountable for these tragic deaths. There is so much speculation over what has happened in the case of Tyrell Wilson I think it is imperative to release body camera footage from this incident immediately. I have seen bystander video footage and what I have seen has directly contradicted the account of the events given by the police department. I think the best way for the community to know what has really happened in this scenario is for us to be able to see the footage ourselves. As I read Mr Wilson's obituary, I was particularly heart broken when I realized that he was from the same town I grew up in, Moreno Valley. Tyrell is the same age as my nephew, from the same town. This man could have been a family member. This tragedy has struck close to home for me. I really love Danville as it is an amazing city to raise a family and be part of a great community, but we can NOT ignore the injustice that has happened here and we all deserve to know what happened that day. Please advocate on behalf of the safety of ALL the residents of Danville and urge the police department to make swift actions to remove Officer Hall, release body camera footage, undergo training to de-escalate mental health crisis situations and take further actions to address the systemic racism that allowed Officer Hall to continue with these actions not once, but twice. Sincerely, Cristina Galvan So 1
