PROCLAMATION
NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK 2021
WHEREAS, libraries of all types are at the heart of their towns, cities and schools, serving their communities
as accessible and inclusive places that foster a sense of belonging; and
WHEREAS, for people lacking reliable broadband at home, libraries provide access to computers, printing
and wi-fi, even checking out internet hotspots; and
WHEREAS, in times of crisis, libraries play an invaluable role in supporting their communities, both in
person and virtually; and
WHEREAS, libraries offer opportunities for everyone to explore new worlds and become their best selves
through access to technology, multimedia content, and educational programs; and
WHEREAS, libraries have long served as trusted and treasured institutions for all members of the
community regardless of race, ethnicity, creed, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or socio-economic
status; and
WHEREAS, national libraries, librarians, and library staff are joining library supporters and advocates
across the nation to celebrate National Library Week 2021; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council does hereby declare National Library Week, April 4-10, 2021
and during this week the Town of Danville encourages all residents to visit their library online to access free
resources and services, and in-person beginning April 26.
