FINANCE COMMITTEE MEMORANDUM 3.1
TO: Mayor and Town Council February 16, 2021
SUBJECT: Authorize execution of contracts with MIG Consultants for consultation
and development of the Town of Danville's Age -Friendly Road Map
BACKGROUND
The Senior Advisory Commission was established in July 2019, with the charge of
advising the Town Council on the needs of the aging population and supporting older
adult residents and their process of aging in place. Part of the Update to the Parks,
Recreation, & Arts Strategic Plan (Plan), as adopted on July 5, 2017, includes the
recommendation to seek designation as an Age -Friendly Community. As a result, the
Town hired consultants, Moore, Iacofano, Goltsman, Inc. (MIG), to work with the Senior
Advisory Commission on the development of an "Age -Friendly Danville" Road Map in
coordination with the Senior Advisory Commission.
The Road Map is situated within the context of the charge of the Senior Advisory
Commission, specifically supporting older adult residents (55+) and their process of
aging in place, assessing the Town's amenities and services in providing an age -friendly
city, assessing all services and recreational opportunities available to Danville residents
and visitors of all age groups and abilities, holding public meetings, conducting surveys
and using other reasonable methods to determine the needs of the aging population.
The public input captured through these various needs assessments will help inform the
development and direction of the Action Plan. This document is intended for use by
Town staff, Senior Advisory Commission members, collaborating agencies and
organizations, and other decision -makers in shaping a system that maintains the high
quality of life enjoyed by Danville residents and visitors aged 55+. It is also intended to
be considered a living document which would be reviewed by the Commissions annually
to ensure it continually reflects the current state of the Town and its residents.
DISCUSSION
MIG Consulting has been providing consultation services for the last 30 years. The Town
has been extremely satisfied with the quality and professionalism of MIG during
previous collaborations and are optimistic regarding the new action plan project.
