Proposal: This proposal is to build two handmade Little Free Libraries to be installed in
the Hap Magee Ranch Park near the picnic benches and behind the Train Museum in
Danville next to the Iron Horse Trail. I will have friends, family, and members from my
Boy Scout Troop help me build and install these Little Free Libraries. I will also be
collecting books from members of the community to put in these Little Free Libraries.
The images attached show the chosen locations for these Little Free Libraries to be
installed. This also shows the design and dimensions of the Libraries that I will be
making.
History of Little Free Libraries: The Little Free Library organization began in 2009.
The Company started with only a few libraries around Wisconsin but has grown to over
100,000 Little Free Library book-sharing boxes in 108 countries worldwide.
What is a Little Free Library? A small wooden box attached to a post about 4 feet off
the ground that provides accessible books for people to read for their pleasure. It is also
a book exchange where if people want to take a book they would leave a book of their
own.
Maintenance: These Little Free Libraries will be self-sustaining and not need much
maintenance other than occasionally refilling the books. They are designed to be
weatherproof, waterproof, and very secure.
Installation: To install the Little Free Libraries, we will dig a 2 ft deep hole for the
wooden post to be set in then secure it by pouring concrete around the pole.
