CALL TO ORDER The special meeting of the Danville Arts Advisory Board was called to order by Chair Bowles at 4:00 p.m. The meeting was conducted by teleconference only. 1.1 Roll Call Administrative Assistant, Kristine Meidberg conducted the roll call for attendance: Present: Kevin Donovan, Board Member Haley Johnson, Board Member Jane Joyce, Board Member Amy Schell, Vice Chair Kim Bowles, Chair 1.2 Announcements Administrative Assistant, Kristine Meidberg provided information regarding the format of the meeting and instructions for public comment. 2. PUBLIC COMMENTS Administrative Assistant, Kristine Meidberg read into the record the public comment that was received via email prior to 3:00 p.m. Beverly Kumar, Commissioner for the Culture and Arts Commission of Contra Costa County, congratulated the Town of Danville on the success of their Hearts Around Hartz public art exhibit. She also shared a link to a video in which two San Ramon Valley Unified School District students participated in a panel discussion on the importance of art in our community and the social-emotional benefits art provides the public. ACTION ITEMS 4.1 Approval of the September 9, 2020 Arts Advisory Board Meeting Summary. MOTION BY BOARD MEMBER JOYCE, SECOND BY VICE CHAIR SCHELL, TO APPROVE THE MEETING SUMMARY OF THE SEPTEMBER 9, 2020 ARTS ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MEETING. Motion Carried 5 – 0 5. REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS 5.1 Curatorial Committee Report Visual Arts Program Coordinator, Marija Nelson-Bleier went over the duties of the Curatorial Committee. The Committee goes over all proposals that are submitted for Art Gallery exhibits and helps with the decision of which will be displayed in the Art Gallery. They meet four times a year and discuss what is going on in the art world and upcoming exhibits. They are currently seeking new members for a two-year term with the option to renew for an additional two-year term. Board Members questions were answered. 5.2 Public Art Program Update Cultural Arts and Marketing Supervisor, Jessica Wallner updated the Board on the Hearts Around Hartz public art exhibit. All seventeen hearts were brought to the patio of the Art Gallery the week of October 12th. The auction started on October 15th and ended on October 20th. Winning bids ranged from $3800 - $10,500. All Board Members questions were addressed. 5.3 Town Updates Cultural Arts and Marketing Supervisor, Jessica Wallner updated the Board on all of the September and October events that took place and the Scarecrow Stroll that is currently happening. She announced that the Art Gallery is now open to the public by appointment only and that the Arts Advisory Board is currently looking to fill the Arts Advisory Board Meeting Summary November 12, 2020 Page 3 3 Youth Representative position. 5.4 Board Member Reports Board Member Donovan reported that he was able to visit the art gallery and enjoyed the California Dreaming exhibit. Board Member Joyce commented that she was able to view all of the hearts when they were brought to the Art Gallery patio. Vice Chair Schell commented on how public art brings people together and on how outdoor art installations need to continue. Chair Bowles reported that on October 28 she was invited to attend the Senior Advisory Commission Work Session and give her input. She also received information from Beverly Kumar, Commissioner for the Culture and Arts Commission of Contra Costa County, on the About Face program, art workshops for Veterans. 6.
