HomeMy WebLinkAbout110420 PROCLAMATION ACCEPTANCEVETERANS MEMORIAL BUILDING OF SAN RAMON VALLEY HONOR COMMUNITY • SERVICE 401040:01.1# r Marie, Karen asked me to send you our acceptance speech for the proclamation for the Veterans Day Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Building. We will be accepting it at the Zoom meeting but Karen will be also reading it at a micro ceremony on Veterans Day. Ron Lowe, president of the board of trustees of the VMB and myself, operations chair, will be in attendance at the zoom meeting. We are awaiting the link to attend. The following is what I am going to say: Mayor Stepper and Councilmembers, As you know we normally would have a Veterans Day Ceremony at San Ramon Valley High School and a three-day open house and museum in the Main Hall of the Veterans Memorial Building. But this year is anything but normal and our Veterans Day activities will consist primarily of flags and bunting. For this reason, it is especially gratifying that you have thought about your Veteran Community in presenting us with this Proclamation. On a personal note, in April 2010 the town of Danville decided to hold a "welcome home" for 23 Vietnam Veterans residing in the town. I was one of them. I was "blown away" and extremely humbled at the thought that this town would stop everything for a few hours and welcome us home. Upon my return from Vietnam, other than my parents and girlfriend, no one had done so before. Little did I know that this day would be the start of a close relationship between myself, local veterans and the Town of Danville. On behalf of the Board of Trustees President, Ron Lowe and all the members of the 8 Veteran Service Organizations residing within our Veterans Memorial Building, I sincerely thank you for this honor as well as your continuing partnership with our Veteran Community. May it last forever.
