As the President of Mount Diablo Cyclists and Chairman of Bike Danville, I would like to enthusiastically
express our support for the Town of Danville’s Diablo Road Trail Alignment Project. Our mission is to
improve the safety for cyclists, motorists and pedestrians on the roads in Danville and Mount Diablo. This
essential safety project has the potential to reduce collisions, prevent injuries and possible fatalities along
the one-mile gap in the existing trail network. This section of Diablo Road is one of the most dangerous
roads for bicycles in Contra Costa County! Numerous Bike vs Vehicle and Near-Miss Collisions have
occurred on this one-mile section of Diablo Road. Each year, tens of thousands of cyclists, motorists and
pedestrians are compelled to travel together on this narrow-windy road, no bike lane, no shoulder, 8%
grade as they travel to/from Danville up/down Mt. Diablo State Park. We look forward to working with
you on this essential safety project. Alan Kalin, alankalin@yahoo.com, 925-64-7055,
