HomeMy WebLinkAbout069-2020DocuSign Envelope ID: E00CFCBF-66EC-4248-9A56-CD909273B8E3 RESOLUTION NO. 69-2020 DESIGNATING THE XAVIER'S SHOE STORE/DESOUSA BUILDING LOCATED AT 375 HARTZ AVENUE AS A DANVILLE HERITAGE RESOURCE WHEREAS, JOHN & SHARON DESOUSA are the owners of the subject property located at 375 Hartz Avenue (APN: 199-330-016); and WHEREAS, on October 11, 2016, the Danville Planning Commission and Heritage Resource Commission approved Development Plan and Variance applications for the 375 Hartz Avenue project (under Development Plan request DEV16-0103 and Variance request VAR16-0103) authorizing exterior facade improvements to the front elevation, construction of a 1,721 +/- square foot second story addition and a 195 +/ - square foot deck at the rear of the building, construction of a 45 +/ - square foot addition to the rear ground floor, and construction of a 35 +/ - square foot trash room to the existing historic building; and WHEREAS, on September 14, 2020 the Danville Heritage Resource Commission approved Resolution No. 2020-01 recommending the Town Council designate the Xavier's Shoe Store/DeSousa Building as a Danville Heritage Resource; and WHEREAS, Chapter 32-72 of the Danville Municipal Code (Historic Preservation) requires the Heritage Resource Commission review and recommend approval of a Heritage Resource Designation and provides for designation by the Town Council; and WHEREAS, Section 32-72 of the Danville Municipal Code establishes criteria for designation of a Heritage Resource; and WHEREAS, the history of the Xavier's Shoe Store/DeSousa building includes the following: 1. The structure is believed to have been built around 1911. 2. Tony Cabral ran a pool and card room in this building around 1915. 3. John Xavier moved into the building in the late 1920s or early 1930s, and ran Xavier's Shoe Store, which also did shoe repair. 4. The building is representative of a particular architectural style and/or reflects special elements of a distinct historical period, type, style, or way of life important to the Town. RESOLVED, that the Town Council designates the Xavier's Shoe Store/DeSousa building as a Town of Danville Heritage Resource.
