I'm happy to report that since we've reopened Hartz Ave on the weekends, my business has increased and is almost back to precovid numbers. It took my customers about 2 weeks to realize that the street closure had been revised to the block of Prospect to Diablo. I had a few customers avoiding the area since the reader board on Diablo directed them away from Hartz Ave. Now that the reader board has been updated to direct customers to turn left onto Front Street INTO town and our new parking lots, I'm sure more customers will come again. Quite frankly, I was surprised at how many customers told me they avoided the area on the weekends due to the street closure. Because of this response and the fact that my weekend business had declined by 30-40%, I am in full support of keeping Hartz Ave open. If in the future, this topic comes up for discussion, I would appreciate notification prior to any changes to the current status. The question I have is : Will Hartz south be closed on the weekends where rain and/or cold weather is predicted? Now that limited indoor dining has been approved, will the street closure be necessary? Having even a section of Hartz does restrict through traffic but I do understand the desire of the restaurants on Hartz South to have it closed. I'm sure you're aware of the trucks for Trump that came to town on Sept 12 at 1 p.m. I am in full support of the right to free speech but this group unfortunately was very threatening. One of my customers gave a "Thumbs Down" to a driver and he made the gesture of pointing an imaginary rifle at her. Her daughter who is 12 yrs old and African American was afraid to go back outside. One of my customers witnessed (and took a photo) of one man taunting Mexican Americans, provoking a fight. At one point, he got out of his vehicle and started to chase people. The parade of trucks with the honking and yelling lasted 45 mins. Because of the closure of Hartz South, the trucks were idling in the streets as traffic was at a stand still. This disruption must have been horrible for diners sitting in tables on Hartz. Again, I do believe that people have the right to their opinion but when it invokes violence, we need to be aware of the potential consequences. As I understand this group of people started out in 1 Pleasanton and went through Dublin and San Ramon prior to coming to Danville. Assuming they will come through again, I'm hopeful that we will have the necessary support system in the ready.
