SPECIAL MEETING
SUMMARY OF ACTIONS
July 8, 2020 - Draft
1. CALL TO ORDER
The special meeting of the Danville Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission was
called to order by Chair Beech at 5:00 p.m. The meeting was conducted by
teleconference only.
1.1 Roll Call
Administrative Assistant Kristine Meidberg conducted the roll call for attendance:

1.2 Announcements
Kristine Meidberg, Administrative Assistant, provided information regarding the
format of the meeting and instructions for public comment.
2. CHANGES TO THE ORDER OF THE AGENDA
There were no changes to the order of the agenda.
3. "FOR THE GOOD OF THE TOWN"
There were no speakers.

4. ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION/ACTION
4.1 Approval of the Summary of Actions from the May 20, 2020 Parks, Recreation
and Arts Commission Regular Meeting
MOTION BY COMMISSIONER DIAMOND, SECOND BY VICE CHAIR JOYCE, TO
APPROVE THE SUMMARY OF ACTIONS OF THE MAY 20, 2020 PARKS,
RECREATION AND ARTS REGULAR MEETING.
MOTION CARRIED 7-0
4.2 Selection of the Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission Chair
Chair Beech highlighted the Chair role and responsibilities and terms of
office as outlined in the staff report. The Commissioners discussed the
nominations and current Vice Chair Joyce was nominated as Chair for the 2020-
2021 term. Chair Beech continued in her current role for the remainder of the
meeting and Vice Chair Joyce will assume the Chair position at the next Parks,
Recreation and Arts Commission meeting on August 12, 2020.
MOTION BY COMMISSIONER DIAMOND TO APPROVE THE NOMINATION OF
VICE CHAIR JOYCE TO THE POSITION OF CHAIR OF THE PARKS, RECREATION
AND ARTS COMMISSION.

4.3 Selection of the Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission Vice Chair
The responsibilities of the Vice Chair role were discussed. Commissioner
Diamond was nominated as Vice Chair for the 2020-2021 term.

4.4 Consider the approval of Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission meeting dates
for 2021
Chair Beech presented the scheduled dates for the 2021 Commission meeting dates
and times as outlined in Attachment A. Chair Beech shared that the March 2021
meeting will be a Joint Meeting with the Arts Advisory Board.

DIAMOND, TO APPROVE THE PARKS, RECREATION AND ARTS COMMISSION
DATES FOR 2021.

4.5 Designation of Subcommittee and Liaison Assignments
The Commission discussed the current open slots on the Iron Horse Trail previously
held by Commissioner Proctor and Commissioner Rezowalli. The Commission
discussed the current assignments and updated the Assignment Summary to reflect
the new assignment designations.

5. REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS
5.1 Parks, Recreation and Arts Department Director’s Report

Recreation, Arts and Community Services Director Henry Perezalonso reported on
staff updates and schedules, noting that beginning in July, the Town offices will be
closing at 1:00 p.m. on Fridays. He reported the Town Council held a budget study
session and highlighted some of the adjustments to the budget due to the current
pandemic and going forward into fiscal year 2020/2021. He provided an update on
some modifications to some of the CIP projects, as well as to the programs and
activities offered by the Recreation Department due to budgetary adjustments. Mr.
Perezalonso responded to questions from the Commissioners.
Mr. Perezalonso also reported on the different activities which are being offered at
several Town sites, which include Youth & Teen summer camps, as well as online
activities and classes in the Adults & Seniors program. He expressed that recreation
staff is staying patient and positive through this time and looking forward to an
eventual reopening.
Jessica Wallner, Cultural Arts Supervisor, reported on the current Hearts Around
Hartz exhibit and a virtual Music in the Park event being planned for July 25 and
August 8 which will be simulcast at the Village Theatre.
5.2 Commissioners’ Reports
Commissioner Diamond thanked Chair Beech for her support on his nomination to
the Vice Chair role with Chair Joyce.
Commissioner Donovan thanked Chair Beech for her leadership and guidance during
these challenging times. He also shared his enjoyment of the Hearts Around Hartz
exhibit in Town.
Commissioner Fung congratulated Vice Chair Joyce and Commissioner Diamond on
their new roles leading the Commission. He also thanked staff for their continuing
efforts to unite and come together to create a prosperous year in the Commission.
Commissioner Strauch shared she agrees with Commissioner Fung regarding the
work Town staff has done during this time and shared she is proud to be a part of the
Commission.

Commissioner Tappin expressed his thanks to the Commission during his first year,
and Commissioner Diamond for his mentorship. He is looking forward to becoming
a regular Commission member and his role in the subcommittee he just joined.
Vice Chair Joyce shared she supports the comments made by the other
Commissioners, as this has been a difficult year. She thanked the Commission for her
nomination as Chair and looks forward to working with Commissioner Diamond as
Vice Chair.
Chair Beech reported that Tuesday, July 7, Town Council presented her with a
proclamation recognizing July as Parks Make Life Better month and her appreciation
for the Town’s recognition of the work and effort the Commission makes.
6. ADJOURNMENT
The special meeting of the Danville Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission was
adjourned at 6:06 p.m.
