Good morning Marie,
Below are my comments for tomorrows Town Council meeting.
Dear Mayor Stepper and Council Members,
All downtown businesses are truly appreciative of the leadership you have provided during these trying times. In less
than 3 months the street closures have provided a much needed financial lifeline to downtown businesses and have
transformed Danville into a model of success in the Bay Area. The Town’s thoughtful case by case approach has ensured
all businesses are thriving. The overwhelming feedback we’ve received from customers is that they absolutely love it.
The closures are helping showcase the charm of downtown Danville to people from all over the Bay Area.
I support extending the street closures and parklets through at least Monday January 4th, 2021. This will allow NYE and
New Years Day plans to be executed with the expanded seating. I also support closing Church Court permanently. This
closure would have limited impact on traffic and will create a unique experience that can’t be replicated in other Bay
Area communities. Below is an excerpt from a customer who dined on Church Court at the end of June:
Most of all, the outdoor seating atmosphere was phenomenal. The extended outdoor seating merged with the other
restaurants, bars, and cafes made us feel like we were sitting on a Piazza in Rome, or somewhere else in Mediterreanean
Europe. It was an experience that we have not had anywhere else in the Bay Area where the city planning doesn’t allow
for such outdoor experiences. We were wondering how we could help petition the city to permanently close Church
Court. In a dream scenario, we would love to see the asphalt replaced with cobblestones and a nice little fountain in the
middle of the “Danville Plaza” :) This would truly cement Danville as the cutest downtown in California!
Thank you again for helping to save our businesses and livelihoods, and for making Danville a truly special place.
