Do not click on links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe. Dear Newell and Jill, We are writing to you to strongly oppose the shutdown of Hartz Ave. for three days each week. We are more than willing to work with the town and we appreciate that the Council is thinking of new ideas to try to generate business for everyone during these trying times. However, this plan has been in effect for several weeks now and our business has been very negatively impacted. A large number of our customers drive by and say “if there is a space to park, I will pop in”. If that opportunity is not available, our continued success will be diminished. Also, many people learn about our presence in town when they drive by our store and might want to check us out – without that exposure we have lost the chance to gain a new customer. 1 Without any traffic the town feels eerily quiet. There is just no life on the street for what should be the our busiest days! Our customers have told us it’s just too much bother to come downtown when they see the signs on both ends of town that Hartz Avenue is closed! Please reconsider this plan – close the street in the evening for the restaurants – fine!!! But please reopen the streets and let JMcLaughlin and all the other merchants try to capture what business we can during this unprecedented summer season. Thank you for considering our concerns about the street closure.
