HomeMy WebLinkAboutBEECH, BRITTANY 070720 Presentation of a proclamation to Brittany Beech, Chair, Danville Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission, proclaiming July as Parks Make Life Better Month This proclamation recognizes the importance of Danville’s parks, trails, open space, and recreation opportunities for all its citizens to use and enjoy as July is “Parks Make Life Better!” Month. The National Recreation and Park association commented that research has shown that when people are more stressed, anxious and socially isolated, as we are right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic, having access to parks, trails and natural areas becomes even more important. Spending time in parks, on trails, and in open spaces and natural areas is an effective way to cope. Parks make life better by providing physical, emotional, and mental health and wellness through play and activity. Parks make life better by fostering social, intellectual, physical, and emotional growth in people of alI ages and abilities by providing endless learning opportunities in nature. Parks make life better for local youth to develop athletic skills and sportsmanship by providing facilities and open spaces. Parks make life better for our local wildlife, where wildlife-friendly parks protect habitat. Our parks provide safe and vibrant recreational opportunities that make life better by providing spaces for people to come together, at a safe distance. Danville’s parks celebrate community identity, character, heritage, culture, history, and landscape. The Commission supports how Parks Make Life Better now and in the future. For the entire month, @danvilleparksca on Instagram will showcase the facilities and history of a new park every week that will enrich the quality of life for Danville residents.
