HomeMy WebLinkAbout061620 Estrella, Gary Attached is a Word document regarding my thoughts regarding Resolution No. 46- 2020 on the agenda for this Tuesday’s Town meeting. I am sorry that I can’t make the meeting. I wish to have it read into the record. Thank you very much. Gary Estrella 1032 Alicante Dr. Danville, CA 94526 925-820-2557 home 925-963-9552 cell As an almost 50 year resident of Danville I support Danville codifying an Outdoor Flagpole Display Policy. Flag Display has historical standing and customs of which I support. The National Standards, State Flags, and City Flags should be displayed in accordance with the 4 U.S. Code Title 4. From my reading of Resolution No. 46- 2020 it looks like that is exactly what the Town Council is doing. I am glad it is being formalized. As a veteran, the POW/MIA flag at the Veterans Memorial Building and the All Wars Memorial at Oak Hill Park honors those who are missing or held as prisoners of war. Section 1082 of the 1998 Defense Authorization Act during the first term of the 105th Congress specified how and why this flag was to be flown. As a resident of Danville with associations in several different segments of our community ranging from Veteran groups, religious affiliation, and youth groups among others I do not support a policy that would cause any divisiveness in the community. I believe granting the display of commemorative flags, other than those listed above, especially those that represent issues that divide rather than unite should not be condoned by the Town Council. We are a Town not individuals. Flying special interest flags on the Town flagpole should be avoided.
