NATIONAL TRAVEL & TOURISM WEEK
MAY 3-9, 2020
WHEREAS, travel has a critical role in the Tri -Valley and the nation's economic prosperity; and
WHEREAS, travel has been the foundation of a healthy workforce, serving as one of the largest private -sector
employers in the U.S., supperting15.8 million jobs in2019, including_2million_dir_ertlyin_the_tr_avel_industry
and 6.8 million in other industries; and
WHEREAS, District 15 of the Tri -Valley encompassing Danville generates $2.1 billion in visitor spending
into the economy, supports over 14,550 employees and provides for $485.2 million in payroll expenses; totaling
more than $74million in tax receipts from 1.53 million visitors; and
WHEREAS, businesses and workers in the travel industry were some of the first and hardest hit by the
economic crisis resulting from coronavirus; and
WHEREAS, travel and tourism -dependent businesses, 83% of which are small businesses, depend on our
community's support through and after this crisis; and
WHEREAS, even while the Tri -Valley cannot welcome visitors in person, the spirit of travel and hospitality
remains the enduring ethos of the travel industry and the Town of Danville; and
WHEREAS, the spirit of travel will be a necessary and prominent component of our return to everyday life
and must be supported and protected at all costs; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council does hereby proclaim May 3-9, 2020 as National Travel and
Tourism Week in the Town of Danville and urge the citizens of Danville to join us in recognizing the critical
role of this industry in the Tri -Valley.
