AUTHORIZING THE INSTALLATION OF ONE RADAR
SPEED DISPLAY SIGN IN THE SOUTHBOUND DIRECTION ON
GREEN VALLEY ROAD
WHEREAS, Green Valley Road is a public street maintained by the Town of Danville;
and
WHEREAS, Goal 12 of the Town of Danville General Plan directs the Town to "Provide
for safe and efficient travel on Town of Danville streets"; and
WHEREAS, Policy 14.01 of the Town of Danville General Plan directs the Town to
"Implement neighborhood traffic management measures, which increase neighborhood
livability, discourage speeding, and ensure vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle safety"; and
WHEREAS, as part of Capital Improvement Program Project No. C-305, the Town
Council has appropriated funding for installation of traffic calming devices, including
radar speed display signs; and
WHEREAS, traffic and engineering studies conducted by the Town established that one
radar speed display sign is needed in the southbound direction on Green Valley Road to
enhance traffic safety and reduce vehicular speeds; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of radar speed display signs are to redirect the motorists'
attention to the posted speeds and, thus, lower the prevailing speeds to within proximity
of the posted speed limit on the street; and
WHEREAS, 70% of residents on Green Valley Road between Diablo Road and Stone
Valley Road and 75% of residents in the immediate vicinity of the proposed location of
the radar speed display sign support this action; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED that the Danville Town Council authorizes the installation of a radar speed
display sign in the southbound direction on Green Valley Road south of Stone Valley
Road at an acceptable location.

by the following vote:
AYES: Arnerich, Blackwell, Morgan, Stepper, Storer
