HomeMy WebLinkAbout030-2016RESOLUTION NO. 30-2016 APPROVING THE PURCHASE OF BODY WORN CAMERAS, ENTERING INTO A SERVICE CONTRACT FOR DATA, REPAIR, AND REPLACEMENT OF BODY WORN CAMERAS, AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR THAT PURPOSE WHEREAS, the Town Council desires to implement Body Worn Camera (BWC) technology; and WHEREAS, the Town Council identified a gap in video coverage between the currently used in -car camera and Conducted Electrical Weapon (CEW)-mounted camera systems; and WHEREAS, police use of BWCs promotes transparency in law enforcement practices; and WHEREAS, the use of BWCs has proven to reduce the volume of citizen complaints and cases involving officers use of force; and WHEREAS, TASER International will provide the Danville Police Department with 35 durable cameras, on-site spares, unlimited off-site storage, SWC replacements at 30 and 60 month intervals, and 35 new CEWs now, therefore, be it RESOLVED that the Danville Town Council hereby: 1) authorizes utilization of $43,747 in Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Funds (SLESF) funds and $14,305 in Asset Seizure funds; and appropriates a total of $58,052 from the funds for the initial purchase of the Body Worn Cameras; and 2) authorizes the purchase of new Body Worn Cameras through TASER International at a total cost of $58,052; and 3) authorizes the purchase of yearly maintenance and storage of Body Worn Cameras and replacement Conducted Electrical Weapons at a cost of $45,115 per year for years two through five.
