SUPPORTING U.S. SENATE BILL S. 1244 TO AMEND
THE COMMUNICATIONS ACT OF 1934
WHEREAS, the Town of Danville supports educational and governmental access; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Danville collects public, educational, and government (PEG)
fees for the purpose of video recording and broadcasting public meetings; and
WHEREAS, the Communications Act of 1934 prohibits cities throughout California and
other states to use PEG funding for operational purposes; and
WHEREAS, without increasing fees and using existing PEG funding sources, a change
to the Communications Act of 1934 would allow the Town of Danville to be able to deliver
higher quality video programming to the community; and
WHEREAS, S. 1244, known as the Community Access Preservation (CAP) Act would
"amend the Communications Act of 1934 to establish signal quality and content
requirements for the carriage of public, educational, and governmental channels, to
preserve support of such channels, and for other purposes;" now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council hereby supports U.S. Senate bill 5.1244 to
amend the Communications Act of 1934.

the following vote:
