HomeMy WebLinkAbout010-2014RESOLUTION NO. 10-2014 AUTHORIZING STREET CLOSURES FOR DANVILLE THURSDAY NIGHT STREET FESTIVALS ON JULY 10 AND AUGUST 7, 2014 WHEREAS, the Discover Danville Association requested evening street closures that coincide with the Town Council's direction to host a vehicle -free shopping and dining experience on Thursday nights in conjunction with the "Shop Local" marketing program; and WHEREAS, and the event will draw approximately 80 vendor booths with a 95% local vendor occupancy rate; and WHEREAS, the Discover Danville Association has requested an exemption from Danville Ordinance No. 96 -10 in order to allow public consumption of alcohol, in the public right - of -way, in expanded outdoor dining areas for restaurants located within the event closure area; and WHEREAS, the goal of this street closure is to allow residents and business merchants to promote their businesses in downtown Danville without other competing events; and WHEREAS, in order to ensure the safety of the participants and to protect the show cars, it is necessary to close streets for the event (Exhibit 1); now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, by the Danville Town Council that the following streets will be closed Thursday, July 10, 2014, and Thursday, August 7, 2014, between 4:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.: 1. Hartz Avenue from Diablo Road to School Street; 2. Northbound Hartz Avenue from Hartz Way to School Street; 3. Prospect Avenue between the Clock Tower Municipal Parking Lot entrance and Front Street; and RESOLVED that the Danville Town Council hereby authorizes the consumption of alcohol at this event within the expanded outdoor seating areas for restaurants located within the event closure area, and in accordance with the provisions of Ordinance No. 96- 10.
