HomeMy WebLinkAbout153-08 RESOLUTION NO. 153-2008 AWARDING AN ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN CONTRACT FOR THE VETERANS MEMORIAL HALL, PROJECT A-510 WHEREAS, in 1925, Contra Costa County constructed the Danville Veterans Memorial Building in accordance with the State Military Veterans Code; and WHEREAS, on August 12,2008, the Town approved a real property transfer agreement with Contra Costa County that transferred ownership of the building to the Town; and WHEREAS, funding was appropriated in the Town's Five-Year Capital Improvement Program for redevelopment of the Veterans Memorial Hall, Project A-SID; and WHEREAS, on September 16, 2008, a Steering Committee was appointed to guide a process by which the building would be evaluated and designed to address current and future needs of veterans, seniors and the community-at-Iarge; and WHEREAS, the Town solicited proposals from architectural consultants to work with the Steering Committee to develop conceptual designs for a new or improved facility, as well as plans, specifications, and estimates for a project to be constructed by the Town; and WHEREAS, of the 33 consultants who submitted proposals, Architectural Resources Group, Inc. from San Francisco was determined to be the most qualified consultant to complete the work for the Town; and WHEREAS, the design of the project will be accomplished in two phases, the first of which involves the conceptual design that includes determining the historic significance of the existing building, developing a conceptual design based on meetings with the Steering Committee, preparing an initial cost estimate, and obtaining necessary discretionary approvals; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, by the Danville Town Council that the Town Manager is hereby authorized to execute, on behalf of the Town, a Professional Services Agreement with Architectural Resources Group, Inc. with a not-to-exceed budget of $199,639 for the conceptual phase of the design (Phase I), and that the Town Manager be authorized to establish and utilize an additional 10% design contingency in the amount of $19,964 for a total Phase I budget of $219,603 for the Veterans Memorial Hall, Project A-SID.
