HomeMy WebLinkAbout060-08 RESOLUTION NO. 60-2008 APPROVING A LETTER OF INTENT WITH CONTRA COST A COUNTY REGARDING TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP AND RENOVATION OF REAL PROPERTY LOCATED AT 400 HARTZ AVENUE (APN NO. 208-022-016), THE DANVILLE VETERANS' MEMORIAL BUILDING WHEREAS, the Town of Danville acknowledges the extreme bravery and valor demonstrated by veterans in the service of their country and acknowledges the great debt owed to veterans by the Town of Danville and the nation at large; and WHEREAS, the Danville Veterans' Memorial Building was constructed and dedicated by Contra Costa County in 1925 as one of several such Veterans' Buildings throughout the county; and WHEREAS, the Danville Veterans' Memorial Building is now nearing the end of its useful life and Contra Costa County does not have funding available to renovate or replace the facility; and WHEREAS, the Town has been working with Contra Costa County and the Veterans Memorial Building Development Committee of the San Ramon Valley (Veterans Committee), a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization dedicated to the development and operation of a new Veterans' Memorial Building in Danville, California; and WHEREAS, the Town and the Veterans Committee have pledged to work together to fund, design and undertake the replacement, renovation, or renovation and expansion of the Danville Veterans' Memorial Building at the current location at 400 Hartz A venue, Danville, CA (APN No. 208-022-016); and WHEREAS, such replacement, renovation, or renovation and expansion is intended to address and mitigate currently identified building deficiencies, adequately address veterans' needs as identified in the January 2008 Business Plan prepared by the Veterans Committee, and allow for other community use including, but not limited to, senior programming, recreational activities, social events, and community rentals, in such a way as to not unduly interfere with the reasonable use of the building by veterans; and WHEREAS, Contra Costa County has worked as a partner in this process with the Town, the Veterans Committee and the Veterans community, and will facilitate the renovation of the Danville Veterans' Memorial Building project through conveyance of the subject property to the Town, in order to continue to meet the needs of veterans pursuant to the State Military and Veterans Code; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council hereby authorizes the Town Manager to execute a Letter of Intent with Contra Costa County regarding the Transfer of Real Property and Renovation of the Danville Veterans Memorial Building; and, be it further RESOLVED, that Danville Town Council hereby directs the Town Manager to work with Contra Costa County to expedite the formal transfer of the facility and land from Contra Costa County to the Town.
