RESOLUTION NO. 20-2006
SUPPORTING THE FORMATION OF A SAN RAMON V ALLEY CITIZENS CORPS
COUNCIL TO PROMOTE COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM
TRAINING AND DISASTER PREPAREDNESS FOR THE SAN RAMON VALLEY
WHEREAS, community preparedness in the event of a natural or man-made disaster is a
high priority for the Town; and
WHEREAS, professional emergency responders and resources are likely to be in heavy
demand following such a disaster; and
WHEREAS, residents will most likely need to care for themselves, their families, and their
neighbors during the first 72 hours following a major disaster; and
WHEREAS, a national model for coordinating neighborhood emergency preparedness
efforts exists in the Citizens Corps Council, in which key stakeholders join together to
create and implement an action plan to involve the community in emergency prev~ntion,
preparedness, and response activities; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Danville has a history of coordinating successful citizen
involvement programs and collaborating with the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection
District in disaster preparedness planning efforts, and would be ideal to share in the
leadership role required to establish a Citizens Corps Council; and
WHEREAS, the Citizens Corps Council would include representatives from the Town of
Danyille, City of San Ramon, San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District, San Ramon Valley
Unified School District, volunteer agencies, and the community; now therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Town of Danville hereby supports the establishment of a San Ramon
Valley Citizens Corps Council and commits the Town to participate in this joint program;
and be it further
RESOLVED that the Town Council looks forward to future reports on the achievements of
this group in working with citizens to strengthen neighborhood safety.

All participants in the District Community Emergency Response Team ("CERT")
Program are designated as "registered volunteers" of the District for purposes of
training for, or performing, emergency services within the CERT Program consistent
with the provisions of Government Code Section 8657(b).
