AMENDING EXISTING TOWN POLICIES TO EXTEND THE PLACEMENT OF
MEMORIAL TREES, TILE ART TRASH ENCLOSURES AND BENCHES
FROM OLD TOWN TO THE LIVERY AND MERCANTILE AREA
WHEREAS, the Town of Danville adopted the Old Town Beautification Plan in 1990; and
WHEREAS, the Plan serves to enhance the pedestrian-friendly character of the Old Town
area through the placement of street trees, street furniture and other related elements; and
WHEREAS, the Town has implemented components of the Plan since its adoption; and
WHEREAS, the Town implemented the Memorial Tree program in 1990; and
WHEREAS, only 17 trees remain available in Old Town; and
WHEREAS, the Tile Art Trash Enclosure Program was adopted by the Town Council in
1995 to further enhance the character of the Old Town area and is currently being
implemented; and
WHEREAS, creating a sense of place is critical for economically enhancing Danville
businesses; and
WHEREAS, the sense of place being created in Old Town would also enhance businesses in
the remainder of the downtown and create a visual connection between both areas; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED that the Town's policies regarding the placement of memorial trees, tile art
trash enclosures and benches be amended to extend from Old Town to the remainder of the
downtown along San Ramon Valley Boulevard to the Livery and Mercantile area.
APPROVED by the Danville Town Council at a regular meeting on May 4, 2004 by the
following vote:
