APPROVING THE CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK OF THE PARKS, RECREATION
AND ARTS STRATEGIC PLAN
WHEREAS, the Town of Danville 2010 General Plan identifies the development of a parks
and recreation master plan as an implementation measures to meet several General Plan
goals; and
WHEREAS, the Arts Commission and the Park and Leisure Services Commission designed
a collaborative planning process that has incorporated the ideas and efforts of a broad range
of Danville area residents, businesses, non-profit organizations and community
organizations; and
WHEREAS, the Commissions have embraced the importance of creating community and a
unique sense of place through the design and development of Town parks, public places,
facilities and programs; and
WHEREAS, through public discussions and workshops, Vision Principles and strategies for
transforming Danville public spaces into vibrant community places have been identified; and
WHEREAS, the Vision Principles, jointly developed by the Arts Commission and Parks and
Leisure Services Commission, include:
1. Parks are community places
2. Parks are interwoven into the community
3. Community members are engaged in creating community
4. Park stewards are responsible for creating a sense of community in public parks
5. Amenities are located to promote comfort and sociability of public spaces
6. Activities enhance the use of public spaces and community sociability
7. Partnerships sustain parks, recreation and the arts
Now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council approves the Vision Principles as the
conceptual framework for the Parks, Recreation and Arts Strategic Plan to guide future
priorities and decision-making related to parks, recreation, and arts facilities, programs and
services.
APPROVED by the Danville Town Council at a regular meeting on November 19, 2002, by
the following vote:
