HomeMy WebLinkAbout001-02RESOLUTION NO. 1-2002 AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION, THROUGH THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY PUBLIC MANAGERS ASSOCIATION, IN SECURING LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY SERVICES TO ASSIST WITH RETENTION OF VEHICLE LICENSE FEE (VLF) AND OTHER LOCAL GOVERNMENT FUNDING WHEREAS, VLF revenues are dedicated to local government, and are collected and disbursed by the State of Califomia; and WHEREAS, VLF and VLF Backfill revenues represent the Town's third largest General Fund revenue source; and WHEREAS, the State of California is, and will be considering measures to eliminate an estimated $8-14 billion deficit and balance the state budget by June 30, 2002; and WHEREAS, the state may consider diverting local government funds as one alternative to help balance the state budget, including the use of VLF, VLF backfill, or other dedicated local government revenues; and WHEREAS, the Town of Danville, working with other local govemmont agencies in Contra Costa County, is committed to retaining all dedicated local government revenues for the purpose of providing essential services to Town residents; and WHEREAS, the Contra Costa County Public Managers Association has recommended that the 19 county cities and Contra Costa County retain a firm specializing in legislative advocacy for the purpose of assisting in this effort; and WHEREAS, the consultant and consultant work scope will be administered and overseen by the Contra Costa County Public Managers Association; and WHEREAS, Danville's financial contribution toward this effort will not exceed $5,000 for a 12- month period; now therefore be it RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council hereby authorizes the participation and cooperation of the Town for this purpose. APPROVED by the Danville Town Council at a regular meeting on January 15, 2002, by the following vote.
