REQUESTING THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS TO AUTHORIZE THE COUNTY CLERK ELECTIONS
DEPARTMENT TO ADMINISTER TIlE ELECTION ON MARCH 5, 2002,
SUBMITTING A BALLOT MEASURE RELATING TO THE BUSINESS
LICENSE TAX TO THE VOTERS ON THAT DATE, SPECIFYING BALLOT
WORDING FOR THE MEASURE, PROVIDING FOR THE FILING OF
BALLOT ARGUMENTS AND REBUTTALS AND DIRECTING TIlE CITY
ATTORNEY TO PREPARE AN IMPARTIAL ANALYSIS OF THE
MEASURE
WIIEREAS, the Contra Costa County Elections Department has historically
administered the Town of Danville's elections; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council, acting pursuant to its legal authority, desires to
submit a measure to the voters at the election of March 5, 2002 to ratify and readopt
the business license tax in effect since 1993; and
WHEREAS, the text of the proposed ordinance to be submitted to the voters is
attached hereto as Exhibit A and incorporated herein by reference; and
WIIEREAS, the Town Council must now take the necessary actions related to
submitting the ballot measure to the voters, which actions include specifying ballot
wording for the measure, authorizing the City Attorney to draft an impartial analysis
of the measure, and authorizing the City Clerk to receive ballot arguments and
rebuttals to those arguments; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, by the Danville Town Council that the Contra Costa County Board of
Supervisors is hereby requested to direct the County Clerk Elections Department to
conduct Danville's Municipal Election on March 5, 2002, and conduct the official
canvass of the ballot; and, be it fm~er
RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council agrees to compensate the Contra Costa
County Clerk Elections Department for expenses incurred on behalf of the Town of
Danville to conduct the election; and, be it further
RESOLVED, that the ,following measure shall be submitted to the voters of the Town of
Danville on March 5, 2002:
"Shall Ordinance No. 2001-03, which ratifies and readopts the 1993 business license
tax, be adopted?"
and, be it further
RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council directs the City Attorney to draft an
impartial analysis of the ballot measure; and, be it further
RESOLVED, that the City Clerk shall receive ballot arguments for the ballot
measure not exceeding 300 words in length by 5:00 p.m. on December 10, 2001; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, that the City Clerk shall receive rebuttal arguments for the ballot
measure not exceeding 250 words in length by 5:00 p.m. on December 20, 2001.

November 6, 2001, by the following vote:
