HomeMy WebLinkAbout006-01 RESOLUTION NO. 6-2001 CONCERNING ENERGY REDUCTION EFFORTS WHEREAS, California faces unprecedented energy challenges and severe electricity supply shortages; and WHEREAS, the importance of immediate energy conservation efforts cannot be overstated; WHEREAS, Governor Gray Davis has asked all Californians to reduce electricity use by 7%; and WHEREAS, to demonstrate Califomia's commitment to conserve electricity, the Governor has directed state agencies to reduce electricity use in state facilities by 7% and has asked cities to do the same; and WHEREAS, the Town of Danville has already implemented the following projects to conserve energy: Setting thermostats at 65 degrees at Town offices and facilities; Turning out lights in all non-essential Town facilities building areas or areas not in use; Shutting off computers or monitors at Town offices and facilities when not in use; Installing light sensors at Town Offices; Turning off holiday lighting within the Downtown area two weeks earlier than scheduled; Changing out the standard red light on traffic signals with new LED lenses; Changing of the standard green light on traffic signals with new LED lenses by the end of this fiscal year (2000-2001); Evaluating the feasibility of installing solar power (photovoltaic systems) as an energy source in Town facilities; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Town of Danville does take this action in supporting energy conservation during this energy crisis with the understanding that the State of California through the Legislature and the Governor' s Office will find a long-term solution to the California electrical energy situation; and be it further RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council does hereby commit to reduce its ongoing electricity use by at least 7%; and be it further RESOLVED, that the Town of Danville urges its residents and businesses to also reduce ongoing electricity use by 7%.
