AUTHORIZING THE DESIGNATION OF PARKING TIME LIMITS ON 200
PARKING SPACES FOR EMPLOYEE PARKING
WHEREAS, the Downtown Parking Task Force prepared a report detailing a series of findings
and recommendations related to resolving parking issues within the downtown; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council adopted this report on March 21, 2000; and
WHEREAS, the Task Force found that many business owners and employees use the parking
spaces most proximate to their businesses, forcing customers to use less convenient spaces; and
WHEREAS, the Task Force report recommended that solutions to increase the efficiency of the
existing parking supply be exhausted prior to adding a significant number of additional spaces;
and
WHEREAS, studies conducted by the Town and reviewed by the Task Force identified 200
parking spaces to be designated with signage allowing those spaces to be convertible to 8 hours
with a parking permit; and
WHEREAS, the utilization of these spaces by business owners and employees will enhance retail
viability through turnover of on-street parking; and
WHEREAS, the municipal lots and street locations to be designated are maintained by the Town
of Danville; and
WHEREAS, the parking permit system will be revamped and permit fees will be increased to
$20.00 per year; now, therefore be it
