ENDORSING THE CONTRA COSTA COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT FACILITY
NEEDS FUNDING BOND MEASURE K ON THE NOVEMBER 7, 2000 BALLOT
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Community College District has served the students of Contra
Costa County with educational distinction for over 50 years; and
WHEREAS, many of the facilities of the Contra Costa Community College District were
constructed many years ago, some as early as the 1950s; and
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Community College District has identified the need for a new
state-of-the-art facility for the San Ramon Valley to be constructed in the Dougherty Valley,
which facility will directly benefit southern Contra Costa County and Danville; and
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Community College District has further identified critical
renovation and modernization needs, including additional classroom and lab space; science and
computer lab renovations; plumbing repairs and roof replacements; security lighting; electrical
upgrades for the 21 st century technology; heating, ventilation and air-conditioning rehabilitation;
and new state-of-the-art facility in the San Ramon Valley; and
WHEREAS, state funding is insufficient to meet the many urgent facility needs of the Contra
Costa Community College District, including $57 million in current unmet scheduled
maintenance; and
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Community College District will ask voters to approve a much-
needed facilities bond measure in November 2000, with a Citizens' Oversight Committee
established to ensure that funds are spent properly; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council does hereby endorse Measure K, a bond measure
which will enhanced educational opportunities in the San Ramon Valley and provide funding to
meet the expanding educational and job training needs of Contra Costa County.
APPROVED by the Danville Town Council at a regular meeting on September 5, 2000, by the
following vote:
