AUTHORIZING STREET CLOSURES FOR THE
DANVILLE HOT SUMMER NIGHTS CAR SHOWS
ON JULY 15 AND 29 AND AUGUST 12 AND 26, 1999
WHEREAS, the Danville Hot Summer Nights Car Show is an event sponsored by the Danville
Merchants' Association; and
WHEREAS, the Danville Merchants' Association is requesting the closure of Hartz Avenue
from Railroad Avenue to School Street and Diablo Road from Front Street to Hartz Avenue
between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on July 15 and 29 and August 12 and 26, 1999
(Exhibit 1); and
WHEREAS, in order to produce a safe event, the following event conditions will be applied:
1. The DMA will survey downtown merchants and solicit donations to help offset costs
associated with the event.
2. Conduct a pre-event briefing with all establishments selling alcohol and notify them that a
"zero tolerance" policy will be in effect during and after the events for overcrowding and
serving of minors.
3. No alcohol will be provided or served in conjunction with the event.
4. The DMA will hold meetings with the business community and the Danville Police
Department to discuss Alcohol Beverage Control Board laws.
5. The Clocktower parking lot is closed to show cars.
6. The DMA must commit to providing 36 volunteers or paid staff per event.
7. All volunteers must wear marked orange vests purchased by the DMA.
8. The location of live music will be subject to review by Town staff and the Police Department.
9. DMA volunteers will continue to assist with parking, setup, and cleanup and will refer all
public safety issues to the Danville Police Department.
10. Fire hydrants will not be blocked by cars.
11. Representatives from the DMA will attend a series ofpre-event meetings with the Danville
Police Department and the San Ramon Valley Fire Department.
12. The San Ramon Valley Fire Department will provide an emergency vehicle and paramedic
staff at the event.
13. All show cars must park in the first available spot. All cars must vacate by 9:00 p.m. or park
legally.
14. The DMA will provide portable toilets at locations including two at the Veterans' Memorial
Hall, two at church Street, and two at the alley between Menar's and Buckley's.
15. The DMA will provide an extra dumpster to be placed behind the Veterans' Memorial Hall
for debris.
16. The DMA will have two shifts for event cleanup on all four days.
17. The Danville Police Department will specify the minimum number of private security
personnel to be hired and their deployment.
18. The DMA will assign a representative responsible for decision-making to the command post
during the entire event.
WHEREAS, in order to ensure the safety of the participants, and to protect the show cars
entering the car show, it is necessary to close streets during this evere; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council hereby authorizes street closures for the 1999
Danville Hot Summer Nights Car Shows on July 15 and 29 and August 12 and 26, 1999.
