DESIGNATING THE TOWN MEETING HALL LOCATED AT 201 FRONT
STREET AS A DANVILLE HERITAGE RESOURCE
(APN: 208-022-026)
WHEREAS, the Town of Danville is the owner of the subject property located at 201 Front
Street which currently houses the Town Meeting Hall; and
WHEREAS, the Danville Heritage Resource Commission recommends in their adopted
Resolution No. 98-3 that the Town Council designate the Town Meeting Hall as a Heritage
Resource; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance 89-8 (Historic Preservation) establishes standards for review of Heritage
Resources; and
WHEREAS, the history of the building is as follows:
The building was constructed in 1933 as the Danville Presbyterian Church. It replaced
the congregation's first church which burned on May 27, 1932.

Other uses for the building included a youth center, the Lynn Day Treatment Center for
disabled children, church day care center, and today as the Town's meeting hall.
The building was significantly renovated by the Town in 1989 and restored to its original
colors of light brown walls, with blue and green trim.
WHEREAS, the Danville Town Council, as the property owner, supports the Heritage Resource
designation; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Town Council supports designating the Town Meeting Hall as a Danville
Heritage Resource based on the following findings:
The building is significant in its architecture as one of a few remaining Spanish Colonial
Revival buildings in Danville.
The building's historic use as a religious, educational and social meeting place continues
as it serves the citizens of the Town of Danville as a Town Meeting Hall.
APPROVED by the Danville Town Council at a regular meeting on February 16, 1999, by the
following vote:
