HomeMy WebLinkAbout096-98RESOLUTION NO. 96-98 AUTHORIZING STREET CLOSURES FOR THE 1998 DANVILLE HOT SUMMER NIGHTS CAR SHOWS ON JULY 9 AND 23 AND AUGUST 6 AND 20, 1998 WHEREAS, the Danville Hot Summer Nights Car Show is an event sponsored by the Danville Merchants' Association; and WHEREAS, this event is supported by the Danville Town Council which granted Business Promotion Funds to bring visitors into the downtown area; and WHEREAS, the Danville Merchants' Association is requesting the closure of Hartz Avenue from Railroad Avenue to Hartz Way and Diablo Road from Front Street to Hartz Avenue between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on July 9 and 23 and August 6 and 20, 1998; and WHEREAS, in order to produce a safe event, the following event conditions will be applied: 1. The Clocktower parking lot is closed to show cars. 2. No alcohol will be provided or served in conjunction with the event. 3. The Danville Merchants' Association will hold meetings with the business community and the Danville Police Department to discuss alcohol beverage control laws. 4. The Danville Merchants' Association must commit to providing 36 volunteers per event. 5. All volunteers must wear marked orange vests purchased by the Danville Merchants' Association. The location of live music will be subject to review by Town staff and the Police Department. 7. Danville Merchants' Association volunteers will continue to assist with parking, setup, and cleanup and will refer all public safety issues to the Danville Police Department. 8. Fire hydrants will not be blocked by cars. 9. Representatives from the Danville Merchants' Association will attend a series of pre-event meetings with the Danville Police Department and the San Ramon Valley Fire Department. 10. The San Ramon Valley Fire Department will provide an emergency vehicle and paramedic staff at the event. 11. All show cars must park in the first available spot. All cars must vacate by 9:00 p.m. or park legally. 12. The Danville Merchants' Association will provide portable toilets at locations including two at Veterans' Memorial Hall, two at Church Street, and two at the alley between Menars and Buckleys. 13. The Danville Merchants' Association will provide an extra dumpster to be placed behind the Veterans' Memorial Hall for debris. 14. The Danville Merchants' Association will have two shifts for event cleanup on all four days. 15. The Danville Police Department will specify the minimum number of private security personnel to be hired and their deployment. 16. The Danville Merchants' Association will assign a representative responsible for decision- making to the command post during the entire event. WHEREAS, in order to ensure the safety of the participants, and to protect the show cars entering the car show, it is necessary to dose Hartz Avenue as requested; now, therefore be it RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council hereby authorizes street closures for the 1998 Danville Hot Summer Nights Car Shows on July 9 and 23 and August 6 and 20, 1998.
