COMMITTING THE TOWN OF DANVILLE TO PARTICIPATE
IN THE 1997 "SPARE THE AIR CITY" CAMPAIGN
WHEREAS, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District currently implements a voluntary Spare
the Air program from June 1 to October 15, 1997 in nine counties that comprise the San Francisco
Bay Area; and
WHEREAS, the Bay Area Clean Air Partnership (BayCAP) is a public-private partnership aimed
at enhancing the Bay Areas's voluntary efforts for both the private and public sectors by sponsoring
the Spare the Air program; and
WHEREAS, the Spare the Air campaign is now in its seventh year and has 630 public and private
employers and organizations who pledge to participate in the Spare the Air program; and
WHEREAS, the San Francisco Bay Area has some of the cleanest air of any metropolitan area in
the nation, as evidenced by the region's designation as an attainment area for the national ozone
standard in 1995, however, shortly after achieving this attainment status, the Bay Area began
experiencing higher air pollution levels caused primarily by automobile emissions; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Danville participates in the Spare the Air program which includes
notification to all city employees prior to a Spare the Air Day; and
WHEREAS, BayCAP has expanded the Spare the Air program to recognize cities who participate
in the "Spare the Air City" campaign by carrying the clean-air theme citywide; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Danville desires to continue and expand its participation in the regional
Spare the Air effort; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, by the Danville Town Council that the Town of Danville commits to implement the
following activities to be a "Spare the Air City":
Acknowledge local businesses in the Town who participate in the Spare the Air
program
Establish a commute alternative information center on site for employees
Create an educational display on air quality for public venues that includes
information on Spare the Air
APPROVED by the Danville Town Council at a Regular Meeting on September 16, 1997, by the
following vote:
