AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE AN AFFIRMATIVE VOTE FOR ALL
TOWN-OWNED PROPERTIES IN CONNECTION WITH THE RATIFICATION
BALLOTING FOR DANVILLE STREET LIGHTING AND LANDSCAPE
ASSESSMENT DISTRICT NO. 1983-1
WHEREAS, Danville Street Lighting and Landscape Assessment District 1983-1 was created
in 1983, shortly after incorporation of the Town of Danville; and
WHEREAS, the District was formed pursuant to the 1972 Lighting and Landscape Act for the
purpose of maintaining street lighting, landscaping, parks and buildings which confer a special
benefit on all property within Danville; and
WHEREAS, in 1997-98, the District will fund $2.3 million of the Town's total $3.6 million
Maintenance Services budget; and
WHEREAS, the District funds maintenance of 2,954 street lights, 55 acres of' major roadside
and median landscaping, and approximately one half of the maintenance cost of 127 acres of
community parks and 79,800 square feet of community buildings; and
WHEREAS, the facilities maintained through the District are essential to the quality of life in
Danville; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Danville does not have alternative revenue sources available to
provide for the aforementioned maintenance services; and
WHEREAS, the current balloting procedure would continue assessment rates at current levels;
and future increases in assessment rates may only occur through future property owner
ratification; and
WHEREAS, the Town-owned properties to be assessed for 1997-98 benefit from the
community facilities maintained through the District; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council hereby authorizes the Mayor to exercise an
affirmative vote to continue Danville Street Lighting and Landscape Assessment District 1983-1,
in connection with all Town-owned properties.
APPROVED by the Danville Town Council at a Regular Meeting on May 6, 1997, by the
following vote:
