AUTHORIZING THE CLOSURE OF STREETS FOR THE 1996 DANVILLE HOT
SUMMER NIGHTS CAR SHOW ON AUGUST 8, 15, 22 AND 29, 1996
WHEREAS, the Danville Hot Summer Nights is an event sponsored by the Danville
Merchants' Association; and
WHEREAS, this event is supported by the Danville Town Council which granted Business
Promotion Funds to bring visitors into the downtown area; and
WHEREAS, the Danville Merchants' Association is requesting the closure of Hartz Avenue
from Linda Mesa to Hartz Way and cross streets which include Prospect Avenue, School
Street and Church Street on August 8, 15, 22 and 29; and
WHEREAS, in order to produce a safe event, the following event conditions will be
applied:
1. The Clocktower parking lot is closed to show cars.
2. The Danville Merchants' Association will hold meetings with the business
community and the Police Department to discuss alcohol beverage control laws.
3. All volunteers must wear marked orange vests purchased by the Danville
Merchants' Association.
4. No alcohol or food will be provided or served in conjunction with the event.
5. The location of live music will be subject to review by Town staff and the Police
Department.
6. Danville Merchants' Association volunteers will continue to assist only with
parking, setup, and cleanup and will refer all public safety issues to the Town of
Danville Police Department.
7. The maximum number of cars displayed shall be 250. Fire hydrants will not be
blocked by cars. Police will monitor cars.
8. A representative from the Danville Merchants' Association will attend a pre-event
meeting with the Town of Danville Police Department and the San Ramon Valley
Fire Department.
9. The San Ramon Valley Fire Department will provide an emergency vehicle and
paramedic staff at the event.
10. All show cars must park in the first available spot. All cars must vacate by 9:00
p.m. or park legally.
11. The Danville Merchants' Association will provide portable toilets at locations
including two at Veterans' Memorial Hall, two at Church Street and two at the alley
between Menars and Buckleys.
12. The Danville Merchants' Association shall provide an extra dumpster to be placed
behind the Veterans' Memorial Hall for debris.
13. The Danville Merchants' Association will have two shifts for event cleanup at 6:30
p.m. and 8:00 p.m.; and
WHEREAS, in order to ensure the safety of the participants, and to protect the show cars
entering the car show, it is necessary to close Hartz Avenue as requested; now, therefore
be it
RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council hereby authorizes closure of Hartz Avenue
from Linda Mesa to Hartz Way and cross streets which include Prospect Avenue, School
Street and Church Street on August 8, 15, 22 and 29.
APPROVED by the Danville Town Council at a regular meeting on July 2, 1996, by the
