AUTHORIZING TOWN PARTICIPATION IN A COUNTY XVIDE
STUDY FOR THE PROVISION OF LIBRARY SERVICES
WHEREAS, the Danville Branch Library is part of, and is operated by the Contra Costa
County Library system; and
WHEREAS, it is now necessary and appropriate to independently evaluate issues related
to how the County Library system will function in the future, including Library governance,
operation and funding; and
WHEREAS, the outcome of the study could affect options available to improve service and
supplement funding for the Danville Branch Library; and
WHEREAS, the Public Managers Association, the Ad Hoc Library Task Force, the County
Library Commission and the County Mayor's Conference have endorsed the preparation of
a county wide study which would include and involve all affected agencies and address these
necessary issues; and
WHEREAS, the independent study would be managed by the Public Managers Association;
and
WHEREAS, the independent study would be jointly funded by all 17 cities served by the
County Library System and Contra Costa County on the basis of population; now, therefore
be it
RESOLVED that the Town Council of the Town of Danville supports Town participation in
the County wide study for provision of Library Services and authorizes the expenditure of
$5,000 in previously appropriated contingency funds for this purpose.

the following vote:
