RESOLUTION NO. 106-95
SUPPORTING THE RETENTION OF NATIONAL REGISTER
OF HISTORIC PLACES STATUS FOR THE RELOCATED
DANVILLE SOUTHERN PACIFIC RAILROAD DEPOT
WHERF~S, the Danville Southern Pacific Railroad Depot, located at 355 Railroad
Avenue, Danville, California was constructed in 1891 in connection with the
establishment of the San Ramon Branch Line of the Southern Pacific Railroad
Company; and
WHEREAS, the Depot is the only depot structure on such branch line to survive with a
high degree of its architectural integrity intact; and
WHEREAS, the Depot is listed as property No. 1 on the Town of Danville Survey of
Historic Structures; and
WHEREAS, the Danville Southern Pacific Railroad Depot is currently listed on the
National Register of Historic Places; and
WHEREAS, the Museum of the San Ramon Valley proposes to relocate the depot to a
new location approximately 800 +/- feet to the north on a parcel owned by the
Danville Civic Improvement Agency; and
WHEREAS, the depot is threatened with demolition because the property it is located
on is for sale, and any future development of the site will most likely require
demolition or relocation of the depot; and
WHEREAS, relocation of the depot requires review of the National Register of Historic
Places status of the depot by the State Historic Resources Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Heritage Resource Commission has reviewed the depot's National
Register of Historic Places status in reference to the relocation of the building and has
recommended that the State Historic Resource Commission approve the retention of
the National Register of Historic Places status; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town of Danville that the Town Council
hereby supports and recommends to the State Historic Resource Commission that the

Danville Southern Pacific Railroad Depot retain the National Register of Historic Places
status.

August 1, 1995, by the following vote:
