APPROVING THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY LIBRARIAN'S REQUEST
TO CONTINUE FUNDING ADDITIONAL HOURS OF OPERATION
AT THE DANVILLE BRANCH LIBRARY
WHEREAS, the Danville Library is a valuable and needed resource for all segments of the
Danville community; and
WHEREAS, on July 30, 1993, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors acted to reduce
funding for County libraries by 30%; and
WHEREAS, the County Librarian requested that all cities in Contra Costa County augment
available County funding in order to maintain 40 hour per week service; and
WHEREAS, the County Librarian worked with Town of Danville staff to identify an
alternative which would provide for 40 hour per week service while reducing the service level
at the Danville Library, an approach consistent with rightsizing efforts undertaken by the
Town of Danville over the past few years; and
WHEREAS, on September 7, 1993 the Danville Town Council did approve supplemental
funding to augment the operation of the Danville Branch Library and directed the Town
Manager to communicate to the County the need for a permanent funding solution to support
library operations in Contra Costa County; and
WHEREAS, while efforts are ongoing to develop a permanent funding solution to support
library operations it is necessary to continue to operate the Danville Branch Library at its
current 40 hours/week level; and
WHEREAS, the Town Manager and County Librarian have developed a proposal that would
keep the Danville Branch Library open 40 hours/week at the current staff level but reduce the
materials budget at a total cost to the Town of Danville of $55,300; and
WHEREAS, funds have been included in the 1994-95 budget for this purpose; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, that the Town Council of the Town of Danville does hereby authorize the
expenditure of $55,300 from the 1994-95 budget to augment operation of the Danville Branch
Library and provide for 40 hour per week service for the 1994-95 fiscal year.
APPROVED by the Danville Town Council at a regular meeting on June 21, 1994, by the
