SUPPORTING SB 1448 ALLOWING FOR
BENEFIT ASSESSMENT DISTRICTS FOR LIBRARIES.
WHEREAS, Assessment districts are a common form of financing for specific services
within the state of California; and
WHEREAS, SB 1448 would allow local entities who provide library services to
establish a library services assessment district; and
WHEREAS, libraries currently have no dedicated revenue source, rely on general fund
dollars and have a history of being one of the first services cut when revenues are
down; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Danville has a vested interest in finding a revenue source to
pay for library services since the Town already contributes to keeping the current
library open and additional expenses are anticipated when the new library opens; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Town Council of the Town of Danville hereby supports SB 1448
and authorizes the Mayor to send letters of support to the appropriate State legislators.
APPROVED by the Town Council of the Town of Danville at a Regular Meeting on
April 19, 1994 by the following vote:
AYES: Ritchey, Greenberg, Doyle,
