HomeMy WebLinkAbout139-93RESOLUTION NO. 139-93 SEEKING FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION AUTHORIZATION TO REGULATE BASIC TELEVISION RATES UNDER THE CABLE TELEVISION PROTECTION AND COMPETITION ACT OF 1992 WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States has enacted the Cable Television Consumer Protection and Competition Act of 1992; and WHEREAS, the Federal Communications Commission has adopted rules and regulations pursuant to such Act which allow for limited local regulation of the cable television industry; and WHEREAS, such rules and regulations provide that units of local government may apply for and receive certification from the Federal Communications Commission to regulate the rates charged consumers of basic cable television service; and WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Danville, having determined that the Town of Danville has the qualifications, ability and desire to obtain such certification from such Commission, and that it would be in the interest of the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Danville to apply for such certification; now therefore, be it RESOLVED, bythe Town Council of the Town of Danville that the Town Manager be, and hereby is authorized to submit, on behalf of the Town, an application to the Federal Communications Commission for certification of authority to regulate basic cable television rates. APPROVED by the Town Council of the Town of Danville at a Regular Meeting held on Tuesday, October 19, 1993, by the following vote: AYES: SHIMANSKY, NOES: NONE ABSTAINED: NONE ABSENT: RITCHEY DOYLE, GREENBERG, LANE APPROVED AS TO FORM: CITY ATTORNEY ATTEST: CITY CLERK
