HomeMy WebLinkAbout026-93RESOLUTION NO. 26-93 REQUESTING THE GOVERNOR AND STATE LEGISLATURE TO EXHAUST _ALL OTHER METHODS TO BALANCE THE STATE DEFICIT BEFORE TAKING LOCAL PROPERTY TAXES OR OTHER LOCAL REVENUES WHEREAS, Governor Pete Wilson has proposed shifting $2.6 billion in local property taxes from cities, counties and special districts to other state purposes; and WHEREAS, the Town of Danville has already laid off 14.25 employees, eliminated an additional seven untilled positions and reduced the operating budget by $2.2 million, and WHEREAS, Danville stands to lose as much as $500,000, or 5% of the Town's operating budget; and WHEREAS, it would be impossible to make up this loss without affecting Danville residents and business owners either through a decrease in services or an increase in charges; now therefore, be it RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town of Danville, Contra Costa County, that it urgently requests the Governor and members of the Assembly and Senate of the State Legislature to exhaust all other methods to balance the State of California budget deficit such as cutting state spending and closing loopholes, rather than by taking existing local property taxes away from essential local services that have historically benefited from the property tax; and be it FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be sent to Governor Pete Wilson, the Legislative Leadership and members of the Contra Costa County Legislative Delegation.
