Select names which would have broad appeal, are easy to pronounce and are not too long for practical application (park signs, etc.). . Adopt names which will be used. If there is already a common name for the site, a different name may never be accepted and used by the public. . It is the general policy to not name parks for people. Park amenities may be named for individuals. . Avoid being rushed into name selection to insure a decision will stand the test of time. Generally, an individual should be deceased at least two years before recognition is considered in naming amenities. . Recognition, publicity, or special privileges sought by individuals or organizations will not be honored except where the benefit to the community is an over-riding consideration. PAGE 1 OF RESOLUTION NO. 171-92 8. Avoid names of organizations which: a. b. C. d. Are subject to name changes themselves; Have new chapters or units periodically; Tend to convey the impression of private ownership or management; or Make relatively small contributions for a long-term, major park. 9.
