HomeMy WebLinkAbout182-91RESOLUTION 182-91 ~' AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE MAYOR OF DANVILLE TO SIGN AND FORWARD A LETTER TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT IN COOPERATION WITH THE MEMBER JURISDICTIONS OF THE TRI- VALLEY AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMMITTEE FOR THE PURSUIT OF NEW STATE LEGISLATION TO ALLOW SUB-REGIONAL EFFORTS IN THE PROVISION OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING WHEREAS, during the last several months, representatives from the five cities of the Tri- Valley area and Alameda and Contra Costa Counties have convened to discuss opportunities for jointly developing affordable housing; and WHEREAS, existing State legislation precludes cooperation among neighboring jurisdictions in the sense that each participating jurisdiction can not receive proportionate credit toward its State-mandated "fair share" affordable housing allocation if the project in question occurs outside its jurisdictional boundary; and WHERF. AS, a modification to existing State legislation is needed to accommodate sub- regional cooperative efforts in the provision of affordable housing; and WHEREAS, the Tri-Valley Affordable Housing Committee has drafted a letter to the director of the State Department of Housing and Community Development requesting the necessary legislative changes to accommodate sub-regional efforts in the provision of affordable housing. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Danville that pursuit of legislative changes to accommodate sub-regional efforts in the provision of affordable housing is in the Town's interest and will aid the Town in the implementation of the goals and policies in its Housing Element; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor of the Town be hereby authorized and directed to sign the draft letter prepared through meetings of the Tri-Valley Affordable Housing Committee.
