DESIGNATING A PREFERRED ROUTE ALIGNMENT FOR PUBLIC TRANSIT FACILITIES
IN DANVILLE
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Transportation Authority, the Contra Costa County Public Works
Department, and other entities are studying or discussing future potential public transit facilities
in the San Ramon Valley; and
WHEREAS, the Town is participating with the City of San Ramon, Contra Costa County, the
Southwest Regional Transportation Committee (SWAT) and the Tri.Valley Transportation Council
in a cooperative, multi-jurisdictional planning process to reduce cumulative regional traffic
impacts of development; and
WHEREAS, the Danville portion of the Iron Horse Trail is designated as a non-motorized
transportation/recreational facility in the Danville General Plan and the Contra Costa County
General Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Danville portion of the Iron Horse Trail is characterized by numerous at-grade
intersections and is in close proximity to residential, park, and school land uses; and
WHERFA~, the Iron Horse Trail is one of the most important recreational facilities within Danville;
WHEREAS, future regional and subregional traffic congestion may warrant public mass transit
facilities within the San Ramon Valley; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED that the Town Council of the Town of Danville endorses the following policy
statements with reference to the preferred route alignment for future public transit facilities in
the San Ramon Valley:

Within Danville's corporate limits, The Town of Danville supports rail transit within
the 1-680 freeway right-of. way only, and pedestrian, equestrian, or bicycle travel
on the abandoned Southern Pacific right-of-way (Iron Horse Trail).

The Town of Danville supports the efforts of the Alamo Improvement Association,
the Organization to Save Our Communities, and the Association for the
Preservation of Danville Boulevard to maintain the Iron Horse Trail as a
pedestrian, bicycle, and equestrian facility within the Alamo area.

The Town of Danville supports the efforts of the City of San Ramon to designate a
preferred alignment within the San Ramon Planning Area.

Future improvements to Interstate 680 through the San Ramon Valley should be
designed and constructed to allow for future mass transit within the freeway right.

Detailed ridersrap and travel demand studies should be completed before
attempting to finalize what type of transit system is appropriate for the San Ramon
Valley or where this transit system should be implemented.
The Town of Danville will cooperate with the City of San Ramon, the Contra Costa
Transportation Authority, and the Tri-Valley Transportation Council on efforts to
mitigate traffic congestion in the Io680 corridor.
Representatives from Alameda County, Livermore, Dublin and Pleasanton should
be included in studies examining transit in the 1-680 corridor.
